YSU negotiations under way

Representatives for Youngstown State University’s administration and faculty began to meet at 9:50 a.m. this morning at Cushwa Hall on the campus.

Neither side issued a statement before the talks which are aimed at settling the contract dispute that culminated Aug. 26 when the faculty voted to strike after rejecting the administration's “last and best offer.” The union changed course hours after the vote and said it wanted to keep negotiating.

The union filed an unfair labor practices charge against the administration Tuesday, claiming “a pattern of bad faith and regressive bargaining.” The administration said it was disappointed by that filing and said the charge is “without merit.”
