POLICE CALLS

A summary of recent criminal activity in Hubbard, Liberty and Girard:

HUBBARD

Aug. 26

Attempted fraud: A Doris Drive woman told police she received two suspicious calls, one claiming she had won $1 million and a car but first needed to send $599 via Western Union. The woman hung up and lost no money.

Theft: Ohio Lottery tickets were missing from a business in the 800 block of West Liberty Street.

Criminal mischief: Property was vandalized in the 400 block of Helen Drive.

Aug. 27

Theft: Gasoline was stolen from a car in the 600 block of West Park Avenue.

Theft: A woman reported a cellphone stolen from her mother’s home in the 100 block of Hillcrest Drive.

Aug. 28

Criminal mischief: A Roosevelt Drive woman reported someone spit on her vehicle.

Arrest: Warren police handed over to township authorities a man, no information provided, who was wanted on a warrant from the Hubbard Mayor’s Court.

Aug. 31

Possible burglary: A male in the 100 block of Bentley Avenue reported hearing someone enter through the rear of the residence and found a basement light on, though no one was found inside.

LIBERTY

Aug. 27

Arrest: Police picked up 18-year-old Gerald M. Wainwright, 211 Colonial Drive, Youngstown, on a township warrant accusing him of failure to appear in court.

Arrest: Officers took into custody 55-year-old Anthony L. Pruden at the Colonial Plaza on Belmont Avenue. Pruden, of 3025 North Gate Road, Liberty, was wanted on a probation-violation charge.

Arrest: A vehicle check on state Route 193 led to the arrest of Richard J. Deitsch, 57, of 1667 Ridge Road, Vienna, on a warrant accusing him of failing to appear in court to face a health-code-violation charge.

Recovered property: A James Lane man found his son’s 18-speed mountain bike after it had been reported missing.

Burglary: To an apartment in the 3000 block of North Gate Road through a window. A 32-inch flat-screen TV was taken.

Domestic violence: Andrae D. Martin, 35, of 4789 Fifth Ave., Youngstown, was charged after Martin’s wife alleged he had shoved and choked her during an argument.

Aug. 28

Arrests: Police charged 32-year-old Terrell L. Leonard, 2813 Julian St., Youngstown, and Melissa Franklin, 39, of 3009 Green Acres Drive, Liberty, with violating a protection order after having pulled them over on Belmont Avenue.

Arrest: Poland Township police handed 32-year-old Virginia A. Wise to Liberty authorities. Wise, of 122 Warner Road, Hubbard, was wanted on two counts of failing to appear in court.

Burglary: To a residence in the 800 block of Mosier Road through a rear door. Stolen was a $700 laptop computer.

Aggravated menacing: Officers charged 36-year-old Jesse P. Franklin, 3028 North Gate Road, Liberty, with aggravated menacing after a neighbor boy alleged Franklin had threatened to kill him.

Drugs: Police cited Dwayne M. Jones, 32, of 1572 Fountain Square Drive, Austintown, after receiving a complaint of marijuana use at a Motor Inn Drive motel. A bag with 2 grams of suspected marijuana was found, a report said.

Breaking and entering: Someone entered a vacant home in the 1700 block of Naylor-Lloyd Road and removed copper piping.

Arrest: Girard police handed 22-year-old Jennifer M. Peace, 2918 Kirkhaven Drive, Youngstown, to township authorities. Peace was wanted on an outstanding warrant.

Aug. 29

Assault/menacing: A Tibbetts-Wick Road woman reported a man punched, choked and rammed her against a counter, then threatened to burn down her residence after she gave him a letter stating he was not allowed on her property.

Drugs: A traffic stop on Motor Inn Drive resulted in two drug-related charges against 29-year-old Diamond A. Carpec, 1085 E. Park Drive, Brookfield, after authorities said a spoon with suspected heroin and a hypodermic needle were found. Also arrested was Leland R. Hunt, 42, of 571 Syme St., Masury, who was wanted on a warrant.

Arrest: David C. Altman, 32, of 447 Indiana Ave., Girard, was arrested on outstanding township warrants charging him with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, theft and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Aug. 30

Theft: Authorities took custody of Lisa M. Rafidi, 37, of 123 Shields Road, Boardman, who was wanted on a felony theft count. Rafidi was accused of stealing numerous textbooks from National College on Belmont Avenue, then selling them to two bookstores.

Arrest: Angelo A. Dourlas, 49, of 2504 Fifth Ave., Youngstown, was taken into custody at his home on a warrant from the Trumbull County Sheriff’s Department.

Aug. 31

Arrest: Police at the Mahoning County jail booked 25-year-old Anita J. Asher, 4201 Logan Gate Road, Liberty, on a complicity charge.

Domestic violence: Julius A. Ferrell, 21, was arrested at his home, 2958 Roosevelt Drive, Liberty, and charged with the crime after a family member alleged that during an argument, Ferrell had grabbed her neck and tossed her across a room. The accuser had redness in the affected areas.

Criminal damaging: A vehicle in the 3000 block of Green Acres Drive was found with a broken driver’s-side window. The estimate was $500.

GIRARD

Aug. 29

Possible arson: Police assisted firefighters with a pickup truck on fire in the 20 block of West Second Street, then responded to a vehicle fire in the 60 block of East Liberty Street.

Theft: Velcro straps were stolen from a Jeep in the 100 block of Crumlin Avenue.

Criminal mischief: A Crumlin Avenue woman found that her car had been ransacked.

Theft: Someone in the 200 block of Morris Avenue took a gym bag from a truck.

Domestic violence: Police charged 18-year-old Isaac Jones, 205 E. Main St., Girard, with the crime after a woman alleged Jones had threatened to kill her.

Aug. 30

Theft: Four compact discs were stolen after someone had broken into cars in the 200 block of East Second Street.

Theft: A man’s wallet was removed from a vehicle in the 100 block of East Wilson Avenue.

Aug. 31

Theft: Someone in the 300 block of East Liberty Street stole golf equipment and shoes, as well as a cellphone, from a Jeep. The loss came to $1,220.

Burglary: A rear door to a home in the 1100 block of North State Street had been kicked in. Stolen was a laptop computer.

Auto theft: A 2003 Lincoln Navigator was stolen in the 600 block of Church Hill Road.

Theft: A car stereo, a speaker, a 250-watt amplifier and two MP3 players were taken from a vehicle in the 100 block of East Broadway Avenue, for a $1,035 loss.

Sept. 1

Breaking and entering: Someone entered a building in the 800 block of South State Street through a vent, climbed down and removed $500 worth of copper wiring.
