Ohioan's tattoo leads to wife's arrest in slaying

OREGON, Ohio (AP) — A heart-shaped tattoo on the arm of a man found dead in a ditch pointed investigators to his wife, who was charged in the killing along with her boyfriend, police said.

An officer noticed the tattoo with the name “Jennelle” inside the heart and remembered being called to a nearby trailer in the past where the victim’s wife had been living until recently, police told WTOL-TV.

Investigators questioned the woman, 19-year-old Jennelle McGuire, and later charged her and her boyfriend, Shawn Brazeal, 20, with murder. Both were being in jail on $500,000 bond.

The body of Devin McGuire, 35, was found Tuesday in the Toledo suburb of Oregon. He’d been stabbed more than 20 times in the chest, a coroner told The Blade.

McGuire had not been seen for about two weeks, but no one had reported him missing, police said. An autopsy found he likely died less than a week ago.

A retired Cleveland police officer riding his bike with his wife spotted the body facedown in more than 2 feet of water.

Both suspects appeared in Oregon Municipal Court today. Brazeal’s hearing was delayed until Friday because he did not have an attorney. Jennelle McGuire’s attorney declined to comment.

The McGuires had been married about three years, police said.
