The Youngstown Phantoms are teaming up with the Mahoning County Sheriff’s Department to encourage area drivers to make their vehicles a “No Phone Zone” by signing a pledge at the Canfield Fair from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday. Phantoms players will be near the grandstand encourage fairgoers to sign the pledge.
The “No Phone Zone” campaign was started by Oprah Winfrey last year to combat distracted driving, and asks drivers to pledge to either not text while driving, not text and use hands-free devices to speak while driving, or not text or use a phone at all while driving.
Faces of the fair
CANFIELD
More than 3,500 fairgoers photographed last year help make up the 2011 Faces of the Fair, a photo mosaic that depicts two icons of the Canfield Fair: the rooster and the pumpkin. This is the third year for the Faces of the Fair, a project coordinated by local artist Suzanne Bort Gray.
The mosaic is on display in the Fine Arts building. Staff in the building will photograph anyone who wants to participate, and those faces will appear in the 2012 Faces of the Fair.
