New Castle police officer injured in crash

A city police officer responding to a traffic crash hit a car while turning in to a parking lot, slightly injuring himself and the driver of the other car.
Pennsylvania State Police in New Castle said Officer David A. Maiella, 30, was responding to a crash on Cascade Street at 12:23 p.m. Wednesday with his lights and siren on. He tried to pass a car on Mercer Street on the left as its driver, Dorothy S. Myers, 28, of Young Street in New Castle, was making a left turn.
Maiella and Myers were taken to Jameson Hospital. Each had minor neck injuries, the state police said.
Two children in the car with Myers were unhurt. Police did not provide the ages of the children.
