A 39-year-old Washington Street Northeast man said he fired his gun into the air at 1:50 a.m. Sunday to stop several young people from assaulting someone on his street.
Police were chasing several young people south on North Park Avenue who had gotten into an argument at a nearby party when they heard the gunshot.
Four juveniles and an 18-year-old were apprehended and charged with offenses such as carrying a concealed weapon for having brass knuckles, curfew violations and obstructing official business.
As of Wednesday, however, no charges had been filed in Warren Municipal Court against the 18-year-old or the man who fired the gun.

A former Warren man sentenced to three years in prison in February 2010 because of drug charges and because he pulled a gun on a man who had come to repossess his car has been sentenced to three more years in prison.
Raheean N. Butler, 30, formerly of Draper Street Southeast, received additional years in prison Wednesday in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court, after pleading guilty to seven counts of aggravated drug trafficking before Judge W. Wyatt McKay. The trafficking offenses occurred in August, September and October 2009.
In March 2009, Butler was free on bond on 2008 drug charges when he confronted a repo man who had taken his 2002 Buick LeSabre from a driveway on Oak Knoll Avenue Southeast. Butler pointed a gun, which caused the repo man to take off running.
