Free hazardous waste collection planned

Special to The Vindicator

LISBON

A free household hazardous waste collection for residents of Columbiana County will be from 8 a.m. to noon Sept. 10 in the parking lot behind the Columbiana County Courthouse.

Materials that will be accepted include oil-based paints, thinners, stains, solvents, aerosols, driveway sealers, pool chemicals, antifreeze, transmission fluid, oven cleaners, pesticides, household batteries, fluorescent bulbs, wood preservatives, computers and television sets.

Plastic materials will also be collected because some types of plastics can cause the formation of highly toxic compounds while decomposing.

East Liverpool City Hospital will give away a new digital thermometer for every mercury thermometer that is turned in at the event.

Business and other non-household sources of hazardous materials will not be accepted.
