Opera, song and ballet music is the focus of a concert by the Dana School of Music’s Symphony Orchestra at 8 tonight in Powers Auditorium in downtown Youngstown.
Tickets are $5, $4 and free for anyone showing a valid YSU ID. Tickets are available at 330-744-0264.
Meet the candidates
Lordstown
The Lordstown High School government class will host a candidates night at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, allowing voters to acquaint themselves with those running in the Nov. 8 election.
Participants include those running for mayor, treasurer and more, a release said. County representatives for ballot issues involving public transit and the fairgrounds also will be present.
The event will be in the Lordstown High School Auditorium.
Basic pistol class

United Veterans of America, Ohio Post 7, 717 Belmont Ave., will sponsor a National Rifle Association basic pistol class, which meets the requirement to apply for a concealed-carry permit, next month.
Sessions are scheduled for 6 p.m. Nov. 16 and 17. The class will be completed at 7 p.m. Nov. 18 or 10 a.m. Nov. 19, depending on participation and student availability.
Three NRA-trained instructors will teach the sessions; there will be 10 hours of class time and two hours of range time.
All materials, ammunition and use of target handguns for qualifying will be supplied at a cost of $87.50 per student or $160 per couple. Sixteen slots are available; seating is limited.

Mayors’ breakfast set for Nov. 22 in Girard

The 26th annual Mayors’ Interfaith Breakfast is scheduled for Nov. 22 at Mahoning Country Club, 710 E. Liberty St., Girard, by the Mahoning Valley Association of Churches.
Guest speaker will be Sister Nancy Dawson of the Ursuline Sisters of Youngstown who teaches world religions at Youngstown State University.
She will speak on the theme ”Better Together,” which will focus on building positive relationships among people of various faiths.
The cost is $20 a person or $150 for a table of eight.
