MAC roundup Saturday’s games

Kent State 27, Bowling Green 15.

KENT

Spencer Keith’s 14-yard touchdown pass to Justin Thompson helped seal Kent State’s win. The Golden Flashes (2-6, 1-3 Mid-American Conference) led 10-6 late in the third quarter when the Falcons’ Eugene Cooper fumbled a punt return in Bowling Green territory. Spencer then found Thompson two plays later for a 17-6 lead with 14:03 remaining. The muffed punt was one of several miscues by the Falcons (4-5, 2-3) on offense and special teams. Bowling Green turned it over four times, had two kickoffs go out of bounds and missed a pair of field goals. Kent State’s Roosevelt Nix returned the Falcons’ second fumble 9 yards for the final margin.

Central Michigan 23, Akron 16.

AKRON

Central Michigan survived an Akron rally to win after a two-point conversion attempt by the Zips failed as time expired. The Chippewas (3-6, 2-3) led 23-16 before Akron mounted a potential game-tying drive. After a Central Michigan punt, the Zips drove 56 yards and scored as time expired on a 9-yard pass from Clayton Moore to Marquelo Suel. Moore’s two-point conversion pass fell incomplete. The win gave Central Michigan its fifth straight win in the series. Anthony Garland put Central Michigan ahead 20-0 after a 26-yard touchdown run with 12:33 remaining in the third. Moore, who threw two touchdown passes to Suel in the final 2:57, passed for 228 yards. Suel had 11 catches for 112 yards for Akron (1-7, 0-4).

Western Michigan 45, Ball State 35

KALAMAZOO, Mich.

Alex Carder threw for 404 yards and two touchdowns and added another score on the ground, and Western Michigan stayed undefeated at home. Jordan White caught two touchdown passes and became Western Michigan’s all-time receptions leader. He finished with nine catches for 172 yards. Tevin Drake had two rushing touchdowns for the Broncos (5-4, 3-2).
