YOUNGSTOWN

Newly crowned royalty and time-tested athletic prowess reigned supreme at the 71st Youngstown State University Homecoming on Saturday.

Despite rain and wind chills in the 30s, the crowd at halftime homecoming ceremonies warmly received this year’s honorees.

Emilie Hall of East Liverpool, a biology and psychology major, was crowned queen.

Jeremy McGhee of Cleveland, an English major, was crowned king.

On campus, Hall is a member of Gamma, Panhellenic Council, YSU Honors and Scholars Program, Order of Omega, Phi Kappa Phi and Intramural Athletics.

The new queen said she plans to pursue a master’s and/or doctorate in neuroscience and become a professor. If that fails, she said she plans to manage a bakery.

McGhee is a member of Inter Varsity Christian Fellowship, Premier Poets Guild, Collegiate Black and Christian club, Alpha Kappa Mu and Sigma Chi Fraternity,

The new campus king said his professional goal is to obtain a master’s degree in student affairs and to achieve a leadership position at a university assisting others in succeeding.

Others in the 2011 homecoming court included queen candidates Kelly Chaffee, Anjalia Lyons, Susan Rowe and Jenna Smaldino.

Other candidates for king included Mike Adamson, Mark Jones Jr., Justin Butt and Michael Koziorynsky.

The king and queen crowned Saturday received the most votes in a campuswide student election among all 10 candidates earlier this month.

Also during homecoming ceremonies, members of the 2011 YSU Athletic Hall of Fame were recognized on the football field. Earlier Saturday morning, the alumni who had brought athletic recognition to themselves and to YSU were inducted officially into the hall of fame. The Class of 2011 includes:
