Author will sign book set in Youngstown

The library’s CSI Y’Town group will host Cleveland mystery writer Les Roberts for a program and book-signing at Austintown Library, 600 S. Raccoon Road, at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 7.
Roberts will discuss his new novel, set in Youngstown in 1985, “The Strange Death of Father Candy.”
Roberts won the PWA Best First Private Eye Novel Competition and is the author of the Milan Jacovich mystery series. He won the Cleveland Arts Prize for Literature and the Sherwood Anderson Literary Award. After his talk, attendees will be able to ask questions. Roberts’ book will be available, and he will sign copies.

Boardman writer to have launch event

A national launch event will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. Nov. 12 at the Art Outreach Gallery in the Eastwood Mall Complex, 5555 Youngstown Warren Road, for the release of Michael Dempsey’s science- fiction crime novel “Necropolis.”
Boardman-native Dempsey is known to local-theater patrons as a director. He was a Hollywood film and television writer in the 1990s before he returned to the Mahoning Valley in 2008.
Dempsey also is an award-winning actor. “Necropolis” is his first novel.
The event will feature singers performing standards from the ’40s and ’50s, dramatic readings from the book, a raffle giveaway, appetizers and a complimentary “film noir” photo portrait for guests. The author also will sign copies of this book.
