Benefit event for Yankee Lake film

Staff report

Yankee Lake

Local filmmaker John Jurko II is hosting a dinner event Nov. 19 at the Yankee Lake Ballroom, state Route 7, Brookfield, to raise money for the completion of his documentary film “Yankee Lake: The History and the Legend.”

Tickets are $30, which include dinner, a copy of the DVD when finished, and an invitation to a private screening of the film.

There will be photos and memorabilia on display at the event, and Jurko will give a short talk on the history of Yankee Lake and the documentary process.

Tickets can be purchased in advance at the Yankee Lake Store or at the door.

Those who do not wish to go to the dinner but still want to contribute can do so online at indiegogo.com/yankeelake.

The film will document the story of a Romanian immigrant family, whose struggle to survive in America grew into a business that became a popular community gathering place for decades. Jurko has shot more than 50 hours of interviews and has uncovered hundreds of photos and documents related to Yankee Lake. He expects the film to be complete by March.
