Red Cross to have blood drive today

Staff report

YOUNGSTOWN

The Northern Ohio Blood Services Region of the American Red Cross has urged people to give blood because donations are not reaching the 900 units a day needed to meet the needs of local hospitals in a timely manner.

The Red Cross asked anyone who is eligible to donate blood or platelets to do so as soon as possible; and for eligible blood and platelet donors to keep the appointments they already have made. To schedule an appointment, visit online at redcrossblood.org or call 800-733-2767.

Locally, a blood drive will be conducted from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today at Youngstown State University’s Kilcawley Center in The Gallery, 1 University Plaza. The drive is sponsored by YSU in conjunction with Psi Chi, the International Honor Society in Psychology, and the Red Cross.

Individuals who are 17 years old, meet weight and height requirements of 110 pounds or more depending on height and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood.

Donors are asked to bring their Red Cross blood-donor card or other form of positive ID.
