Ohioans report errors in treasurer salary database

COLUMBUS (AP) — Visitors to Ohio Treasurer Josh Mandel’s new search engine for public worker salaries have complained the site is riddled with errors and omissions, leading his office to repair current data and change the way it gathers wage information.

The Associated Press obtained feedback on Mandel’s “Treasurer’s Transparency Project” through a public records request.

School district treasurers and a university professors’ union were among those asking that their information be pulled due to errors. Others accused Mandel of fueling bad feelings toward government workers ahead of November’s vote on Ohio’s collective-bargaining law.

A spokesman says the site is no longer streaming data compiled by the conservative Buckeye Institute because it has begun gathering the salary data directly. Seth Unger said the office is continually improving and expanding the tool.
