Father, mom indicted in Ohio child death case

CINCINNATI (AP) — A Cincinnati father and mother have been indicted on charges from the abuse death of their 2-year-old son, who had been recently returned to them from foster care.

Hamilton County Prosecutor Joseph Deters says he will seek the death penalty with conviction against the father, Antrone Smith. The 29-year-old man is charged with aggravated murder, murder, and felonious assault. Smith was in jail today on $500,000 bond.

DeMarcus Jackson’s 22-year-old mother Latricia Jackson has been charged with child endangering. No other information on her was immediately available.

Deters says DeMarcus suffered numerous injuries, including bruises, cuts, and a burn, and died Oct. 21 from blunt force to his abdomen.

He was reunified with his birth parents in August by county social authorities.
