Canfield grad graduates with honors
Thomas Mikes graduate magna cum laude from The Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Science in business administration with Honors Research Distinction. He majored in International Business with concentrations in Finance and Russian Language. Mikes is a 2007 graduate of Canfield High School and is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Mikes of Canfield.
Human trafficking speaker
Canfield Christian Church, 123 South Broad St., is hosting Dr. Tomi Lee Grover on Nov. 11 at 6 p.m. for training on visitation during a pot-luck dinner.
On Nov. 13 at 10:30 a.m. Dr. Grover will speak about TraffickStop, an organization which aims to stop human trafficking. A dinner will follow. For more information, call the church office at 330-533-2246.
Almost Maine
The Canfield High School Players will be performing Almost Maine by John Cariani on Nov. 10 and 12 at 7 p.m. in the Canfield High School Auditorium. This show is intended for mature adolescents and older and is not suitable for young children.
Local dancers perform with Youngstown Symphony Orchestra
Company dancers of Ballet Western Reserve are taking the stage with the Youngstown Symphony Orchestra to perform “Appalachian Spring,” a work composed by Aaron Copland for Martha Graham.

Church hosts drive-through chicken dinner
Western Reserve United Methodist Church, 4580 Canfield Road, will host a drive-through chicken dinner on Thursday from 4 p.m. until sold out.
The cost is $7 and includes stuffed chicken breasts with gravy, mashed potatoes, green beans and brownie.
Boardman-Poland Junior Women’s League hosts meeting
The next meeting of the Boardman-Poland Junior Women’s League will be Nov. 7 at 6:30 p.m. at McDonough Museum of Art, 410 Wick Ave. The league will tour the museum and take a group photo.
Members are asked to bring a baby blanket for the Provisional Project of Jacky Thompson. All blankets collected will be donated to “Making Kids Count.”
Members are also asked to bring items for the Christmas baskets to be made for the residents of Glenellen.

Local bankers receive banking diploma
Randy Colian, AVP Collections Manager, and Stacie Salyard, Commercial Credit Manager at Farmers National Bank in Canfield, recently graduated from the 2011 OBL Bank Management School, sponsored by the Ohio Bankers League.
Colian and Salyard were two of the 28 bankers who completed the intensive one-week program in September. The comprehensive school offers bankers from across the state the opportunity to enhance their skills in all areas of bank operations and management, and helps them understand the impact changes in the economy have on the profitability of a bank.
Montessori school hosts Baby Talk
The Montessori School of the Mahoning Valley, 2008 Lynn Ave., Youngstown is hosting Baby Talk: Where Babies Communicate every Tuesday in November.
The classes taught by Karen Steed, Deaf Educator and Sign Language Interpreter and Barb Ricks, Speech Language Pathologist is designed to increase vocabulary, reduce frustration and expand expressive language in babies.
Classes are geared to children ages 6 months to 2 and a half years and their parents.
Baby Talk level I will be Tuesdays in November (1,8,15,22) from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.
Baby Talk level II will be Tuesdays in November (1,8,15,22) from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Class fees are $50 and include the session and sign language resource materials.

ABWA anniversary to be marked
The Mill Creek Chapter of the American Business Woman’s Association will celebrate its 49th Anniversary on Nov. 8 at Das Dutch Haus Restaurant in Columbiana. Cost is $20 and will include fried chicken, chuck roast, mashed potatoes with gravy, stuffing, vegetables, cole slaw, soup and salad bar, homemade bread and pie.

Disney Prince and Princess Party set for Nov. 12
Princesses and Princes from preschool to third grade are invited to the Disney Prince and Princess Party at the Austintown library on Nov. 12 from 10 a.m. to noon.
Dress up as your favorite Disney princess or prince.
This is a fundraising event for the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County. Tickets are $20 per child and the price of admission includes a ticket voucher for the a Disney on Ice performance of “Mickey and Minnie’s Magical Journey” at the Covelli Centre.
Children at the library party must be accompanied by an adult, who is admitted free. Attendance is limited to 100.

Angels hosts holiday wine tasting
Angels for Animals will host its sixth annual holiday wine taste on Saturday from 7 to 10 p.m. at Andrews Hall in Canfield.
This year’s event will feature rich reds, sparkling whites and distinctive dessert wines from around the world. Help support the shelter programs and take home your favorite bottle or case at a discounted price.
Tickets in advance are $30 each or $50 per couple. Tickets are the door are $35 each or $60 per couple.

Hope Works of the Mahoning Valley
The Ursuline Center is hosting Hope Works of the Mahoning Valley. The sessions are designed to help unemployed and underemployed learn job interviewing skill, job search strategies and networking. The program bring in area employers and other experts to offer advice for job seekers.
On Wednesday, practice interviews with feedback will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Ursuline Center, 4280 Shields Road. On Nov. 9 the Computer Skills for the Job Search: Basics and Beyond session will be held at the Mahoning County Career and Technical Center, 7300 N. Palymra Road, Canfield.

Group violin lessons
Group violin lessons will begin Tuesday at Lord of Life Lutheran Church. Lessons will be offered Tuesdays from 6 to 7 p.m. for ages 7-10 and Thursdays from 6 to 7 p.m. for ages 4-6.

Canfield resident named member of Sigma
Ryan Sankovic of Canfield has been recognized as a member of Sigma Alpha Lambda, National Leadership and Honors Organization at the University of south Carolina. Sankovic was inducted into Sigma Alpha Lambda on Sept. 18 at the University of South Carolina.
Sigma Alpha Lambda is a national leadership and honors organization dedicated to promoting and rewarding academic achievement and providing members with opportunities for community service, personal development and lifelong professional fulfillment.
Investigate the Millstones of Mill Creek
Joe Hannibal of the Cleveland Museum of Natural History will chronicle his study of historic millstones along Mill Creek and other streams in the Western Reserve tomorrow at 1 p.m. Hannibal will share his discoveries during an indoor presentation and finish with a moderate, 4-mile hike to Lanterman’s Mill to view the millstones. Meet at Ford Nature Center.
