Pa. mom pleads guilty to DUI crash that killed son
ERIE, Pa. (AP) — A Pittsburgh-area woman likely faces three years in prison after pleading guilty to being under the influence during a crash that killed her 14-year-old son near Erie last year.
The Erie Times-News reports 40-year-old Christa Logue, of New Kensington, pleaded guilty Tuesday to homicide by vehicle while driving under the influence and driving under the influence of methadone, a drug commonly used to help wean people off of heroin.
Logue’s son, Joshua Gibson, was thrown from her van in the crash on Aug. 1, 2010, on Interstate 79 near Edinboro. The boy was returning from a youth baseball tournament in Erie.
Logue and her attorney did not comment.
The homicide charge carries three to 10 years in prison, but prosecutors have agreed not to oppose a recommended three-year sentence when she returns to court Jan. 9.
