Oakland protesters vow to return to streets

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — Oakland demonstrators are vowing to return to their protest site just hours after police cleared hundreds of people from the streets with tear gas.

A Twitter feed used by Oakland’s Occupy Wall Street movement today called on protesters to return to downtown at 6 p.m. for another round of demonstrations.

The Twitter feed (at)OccupyOakland tells its followers to return to the plaza in front of Oakland City Hall, vowing that they “will not be moved.” The conflict between protesters and police began early Tuesday, when officers dismantled an encampment that had dominated the plaza for more than two weeks.

After nightfall protesters began marching toward City Hall in an attempt to re-establish a presence in the area of the disbanded camp.

They were met by police, who cleared the area by firing tear gas.
