Lohan’s father faces new charge
TAMPA, Fla.
The father of actress Lindsay Lohan was arrested Tuesday in Florida on domestic-violence charges after police said he grabbed his on-and-off girlfriend’s arms and pushed her down multiple times during a daylong argument.
A Tampa Police Department report said one cause of the fight between 51-year-old Michael Lohan and 28-year-old Kathryn Major was a scheduled Tuesday court date in nearby Sarasota County on a previous domestic-violence case.
“She had some redness on her arms, some minor bruising, and it was determined that he grabbed her arm and threw her to the ground a couple of times,” police spokeswoman Andrea Davis said.
After being placed in custody, Lohan complained of chest pains and was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital. Davis said he apparently tried to check himself out and leave unnoticed when he thought the officers had departed, but they quickly arrested him.
Cable channel renews ‘The Walking Dead’
NEW YORK
SDLqThe Walking Dead” will live on for yet another year.
AMC network said Tuesday that its hit zombie drama, just two weeks into a second season, will be returning for a third season.
Sunday’s episode drew an audience of 6.7 million viewers for the early airing and an additional 2.1 million viewers for the same-night repeat.
That eclipsed the year-ago audience for the series, which emerged as a surprise hit by averaging 5.2 million viewers weekly during that first season.
Based on the popular comic book of the same name, “The Walking Dead” depicts the aftermath of a zombie apocalypse confronted by a group of survivors outside Atlanta. Its cast includes Andrew Lincoln, Jon Bernthal and Sarah Wayne Callies.
‘Forrest Gump’ square is getting a cleanup
SAVANNAH, Ga.
City crews in Savannah, Ga., have begun a major cleanup of the square where actor Tom Hanks proclaimed that life is like a box of chocolates in the film “Forrest Gump.”
Workers have started clearing undergrowth and cutting away dead limbs with a goal of making Chippewa Square a safer and more-desirable city spot.
The Savannah Morning News reports that tourists still seek out the park bench made famous in the movie.
Dave Knox, the city’s park administrator, said the landscaping hasn’t changed much in the past two decades.
Officials said azaleas grew to about 12 feet tall and 8 feet wide over the years, and homeless people frequently crawled into the underbrush for extended stays.
Officials said those plants and others will be trimmed considerably.
Hospital to name room after Poison singer
PHOENIX
A Phoenix hospital is injecting a little Poison into families waiting for sick loved ones, thanks to a donation from 1980s hair- band singer Bret Michaels.
The Poison frontman plans to announce Thursday that he is donating TVs and sound systems for a waiting room at the St. Joseph’s Barrow Neurological Institute, where he was treated in April 2010 for a brain hemorrhage. The equipment will allow families to relax and listen to music.
In return, the waiting room will be named after Michaels.
He also was treated at the hospital earlier this year for a procedure to fix a hole in his heart. Doctors discovered the hole when they treated him for the brain hemorrhage.
