Report recommends commuter rail between Cleveland and Sandusky
CLEVELAND (AP) — An analysis of regional transit calls for commuter rail service linking Cleveland with Sandusky, the city known as the home of the Cedar Point amusement park.
However, the new report from a consulting firm also says any regional rail line should wait 10 years and be established only if there’s enough demand.
The Plain Dealer of Cleveland reports the analysis of what’s being called the WestShore Corridor Transportation Project was partly paid for with a federal grant.
A train to Sandusky, 55 miles west of Cleveland, would pass through Lorain County. The consulting firm notes that the county is a big commuter market not currently served by a bus route into Cleveland.
The rail project would cost an estimated $400 million. It’s unclear where the money would come from.
