Prosecutor looking into Ohio foster boy's death
CINCINNATI (AP) — A prosecutor is investigating the return of a 2-year-old foster child to his parents’ Cincinnati home where police say he was fatally beaten by his father.
Twenty-nine-year-old Antrone Smith is charged with murder in the Friday death of son DeMarcus Jackson. He wept in court Monday as a judge appointed a lawyer and set a $500,000 bond.
Hamilton County Prosecutor Joseph Deters said today his office will determine within nine days if additional charges will be presented to a grand jury.
The Cincinnati Enquirer reports the boy was placed with foster parents when he was 8 days old and returned to his parents about two months ago.
A spokesman for the county Department of Job and Family Services says he was unaware of any objections to returning the boy.
