Deutscher Musik Verein was founded in 1967 as the Deutsche Musikschule with Stefan Bell as president and Herbert Kusper as director. Hundreds of music students of all ages have received private lessons and played with the organization’s various performing groups over the years, including the 30-piece German brass band that has been known since 1992 as the Deutscher Musik Verein.

The Alpen Schuhplattler began in 1964 when a group of dancers was formed to represent the Bavarian culture at the Pittsburgh Folk Festival. The present roster of dancers consists of several second and even third generation members.
