Trial begins for former Ohio teacher on sex charges

LEBANON, Ohio (AP) — The trial of a former high school teacher accused of having sex with several male students in southwest Ohio began today.

Stacy Schuler waived her right to a jury trial last week. She will be tried by a Warren County Common Pleas judge in a courtroom in Lebanon.

Schuler is charged with 16 counts of sexual battery and three counts of providing alcohol to minors. The 33-year-old woman has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity.

Schuler resigned as health and gym teacher at Mason High School in February after her arrest.

She is accused of having sexual relations with students on five separate occasions at her house. Prosecutors have said that the alleged offenses occurred last year.
