WASHINGTON
The Defense Department announced Sunday the deaths of three soldiers who were supporting Operation Enduring Freedom. One of those killed was Lt. Ashley White, 24, of Alliance.
The soldiers died Saturday in Kandahar province, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked their unit with an improvised explosive device.
White was assigned to the Guard’s Goldsboro-based Company C, 230th Brigade Support Battalion of the 30th Heavy Brigade Combat Team. She was serving with Special Operations Forces as part of a Cultural Support Team (CST), a mission for which she had volunteered.
“We are grieving with her family today. Our prayers are with them during this difficult time,” said Maj. Gen. Greg Lusk, adjutant general of North Carolina and commander of the nearly 12,000 men and women of the North Carolina National Guard.
