The John S. and James L. Knight Foundation announced that William H. Considine, president and CEO of Akron Children’s Hospital, will join the foundation’s board of trustees. The foundation supports transformational ideas that engage communities, promote quality journalism and media innovation and foster the arts. Considine has been president and CEO of Akron Children’s Hospital since 1979. Considine is a past board chairman of the National Association of Children’s Hospitals and Related Institutions, the Child Health Corporation of America and the Children’s Miracle Network Board. He has a master’s degree in health science administration from Ohio State University and doctorates in humane letters from The University of Akron and Science Honoris Causa from the Northeast Ohio Medical University.

Cleveland-based Dix & Eaton recently announced the promotion of Youngstown native Kellie Friery, a member of its investor-relations practice. Friery develops and executes communication messages, strategies and programs to support senior executives in effectively positioning their organizations with investors, security analysts and business media. She also has been actively involved in communications-strategy development and execution surrounding various proxy fights, mergers and acquisitions, and initial public offerings. Friery previously was a senior auditor with Ernst & Young LLP in Cleveland. A certified public accountant, she graduated cum laude from the University of Notre Dame with bachelor’s and master’s degrees in accountancy.

Turning Technologies LLC of Youngstown recently announced that Dr. Eric Mazur, Balkanski professor of physics and applied physics at Harvard University and area dean of applied physics, has joined the company’s senior leadership team as chief academic adviser. Mazur has been chairman of the company’s Instructional Strategies Advisory Group since 2009. As CAA, Mazur will advise product development and support the company’s ongoing efforts to add product capabilities that easily facilitate innovative pedagogical approaches and methods in learning environments. Mazur will provide recommendations on how to best address educators’ needs and challenges and how to further leverage the proven, effective pedagogical uses of the company’s products and services.

J.P. Morgan recently announced it has hired Eric Werner as an executive director and private banker, based in Pittsburgh. In his new role at J.P. Morgan, Werner will be responsible for delivering the firm’s investing, wealth transfer, credit and philanthropic services to ultra high-net-worth clients in Pennsylvania and Ohio. He will work closely with other areas of the firm to support the overall growth of the JPMorgan Chase business in the region. Werner most recently worked at the law firm Schnader Harrison Segal & Lewis LLP, where he was a partner. Previously, he served in several executive leadership positions at Werner Co. and affiliates, the nation’s largest manufacturer and marketer of ladders. He received his juris doctorate degree from Boston University School of Law and his bachelor’s degree from Penn State University.
