Boardman’s Hadley wins D1 district crown; Howland’s Sutton is second

Boardman sophomore Mark Hadley won a Division I district cross country title with a time of 16:07 at Saturday’s race at Malone College, helping the Spartans finish third to earn a regional berth.
Hadley was 13 seconds ahead of Howland’s Nathan Sutton. Fitch’s Alexander While was fourth with a time of 16:44.8.
Howland’s Ryan Sullivan finished sixth while Boardman’s Alan Burns was 11th and Canfield’s Jon Hutnyan 17th. Teams in the top five and individuals in the top 20 not on a qualifying team advanced in Div. I.
In Division II, West Branch junior Drake Lohnes finished in 16:58.45 to finish second, eight seconds behind Fairless junior Josh Laney. West Branch’s John Overly was 13th to earn a qualifying spot.
No area teams advanced in Division II or III, and Lisbon’s Chad Bosel was the only area runner to earn an individual spot in Div. III by finishing 11th.
On the girls side, Fitch sophomore Carissa Jenkins took third in 19:41.03 — the only Falcon to advance.
Howland freshman Morgan Buckley placed 12th and Canfield junior Emma Lunne placed 15th as both earned regional berths.
No area girls teams advanced in Div. I.
In Division II, Salem’s Anna Shivers (eighth), Mallory Maher (ninth), Caela Lehman (11th), Gabrielle Shivers (12th) and Samantha Briceland (20th) helped the Quakers place second with 55 points, 10 behind first-place Tuslaw.
In Division III, Lisbon freshman Bobbi Jo Evans took sixth to help the Blue Devils place third and Columbiana senior Ashley Lydic was fifth as the Clippers placed sixth. Both teams advanced as the top six teams and individuals in the top 24 moved on.
United sophomore Allison Parks finished an area-best fourth.
