VETERANS

Health fairs scheduled

NEW CASTLE, Pa.

Four upcoming health fairs for veterans will offer flu shots and health screenings.

A Veterans’ Flu Clinic and Health Fair is set for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday in the lower level of the Lawrence County Government Center, 420 Court St.

Similar events are scheduled for 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Veterans Affairs (VA) Butler Healthcare, Primary Care Clinic, 325 New Castle Road, Butler; from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 1 at the Michael A. Marzano VA Outpatient Clinic, 295 Kerrwood Drive, Suite 110, Hermitage; and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 4 at VFW Post 8106, 100 Monroe St., New Galilee.

The events offer health screenings for blood pressure, diabetes, body mass index, bone density and COPD. Veterans should bring their DD214’s to register for any Veterans Administration programs.

Information about behavioral health care, Vietnam and Agent Orange issues and other VA programs will be available.

Jeff Yocum one of 10

HUBBARD

Army Pfc. Jeff Yocum of Hubbard was one of 10 soldiers from Fort Riley, Kan., selected from the 4th Brigade to be honored for their accomplishments Oct. 9 before the beginning of the NASCAR Hollywood Casino 400 at Kansas City, Kan.

Yocum completed Unmanned Aircraft Instructor Training in July and on Oct. 6 was one of five soldiers from his battalion to receive the 4th IBCT Special Troops Battalion Award presented by Command Team for Excellence.

ADVANCED TRAINING

Alford fire specialist

Army National Guard Pvt. Ryan S. Alford has graduated from the Fire Support Specialist Advanced Individual Training course at Fort Sill, Okla.

Alford is the son of John F. and Kelly J. Clipse of Fredonia, Pa., and a 2011 graduate of Reynolds Junior-Senior High School, Greenville, Pa.
