Man faces charge of resisting arrest

A township man was arrested after police said he interfered with a drug raid they were conducting at his home.

Police charged Richard McDowell, 58, of Wildwood Drive, with obstructing official business and resisting arrest, both misdemeanors, for not cooperating with police during a search of his home.

Boardman police obtained a warrant and entered McDowell’s home about 9:20 a.m. Thursday to search the residence for drugs, according to a police report.

McDowell was asked by police to get onto the ground, to which he responded, “Get that light out of my face.” He became aggressive with officers and was taken to the ground then immobilized with a stun gun before complying with officers’ commands, the report said.

McDowell was booked at the police department and released on a summons. His arraignment hearing is at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday at Mahoning County Area Court here.

While searching the house, police found plastic bags full of suspected marijuana, empty containers with suspected marijuana residue, drug paraphernalia, a firearm and nearly $10,000 in cash.

The items were logged into evidence, and no charges have been filed in relation to the warrant search.
