The Kent State Jazz Ensemble will give a free concert Sunday at 3 p.m. in Kent State University-Salem’s City Center auditorium, 230 N. Lincoln Ave., Salem. Parking is behind the building. The ensemble, under the direction of Chas Baker, at right in photo, is an award-winning big band featuring the talents of some of the best instrumentalists in the Hugh A. Glauser School of Music at Kent State. Sunday’s program will include music by Duke Ellington, Cole Porter, George Gershwin, Oliver Nelson, Count Basie and more. Future concerts at Kent-Salem City Center will include the Kent State Gospel Choir at 3 p.m. Nov. 20; and the Kent State Salem Communiversity Choir at 7 p.m. Dec. 17. All concerts are free and take place in the second-floor auditorium of the City Center.
