Young readers in Austintown, North Jackson and Lake Milton have spent the summer of 2011 reading aloud with their families, browsing selections at the library, and sneaking a few extra pages of great books after the lights went out.

To celebrate the best readers of the library’s “One World, Many Stories” Summer Reading Program, the Austintown library welcomed travelers from all three communities to celebrate their success on Sept. 26.

Event host Hayley McEwing welcomed the star readers and added one more story to the group’s long list of tales with a reading of “Frog Girl” by Paul Owen Lewis. Afterward, McEwing handed out certificates and prizes to the best readers in each grade level from the Austintown, North Jackson and Lake Milton libraries. Collectively, the young wordsmiths read hundreds of hours over the summer.

The group then broke up to enjoy apple and fortune cookie snacks and to complete activities like a Russian nesting doll craft.

For most guests, it was a time to reflect on a summer full of great stories.

“I read a lot of Nancy Drew books and a lot of chapter books. I read a lot to my little sister, Sabrina,” said India Getts.

For the Sipusic family, reading was something that they enjoyed together.

“We read the kids to sleep every night and we try a story in the morning, too, if we have the time. We’re definitely a reading family,” said Judy Sipusic of her kids Dakota, Madeline and Dallas.
