Pajama Jam at the library
The Poland library is hosting Pajama Jam: Sleepy-Time Fun for the Family on Nov. 21 from 6:30 to 7 p.m.
Families are invited to put on their pajamas and come for holiday stories and more fun.
Trim a tree at the library
Children of all ages are invited to decorate an ornament for the all-seasons tree at the Poland Library. Children can decorate the ornament during library hours throughout Nov.
Breaking Dawn wedding is Nov. 17
The Poland library invites girls in grades 7-12 to attend a wedding celebration for Bella and Edward from the Twilight Series on Nov. 17 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the library.
The event will include games, crafts, prizes, surprises and food.

Breakfast Club hosts candidate forum
The Breakfast Club invites the public to attend a candidate forum at 10 a.m. on Oct. 30 in the Fellowship Hall of Poland Presbyterian Church.
During the forum, candidates for the Poland school board election will be interviewed and will answer questions from the audience.
Four candidates are running for open seats on the Poland school board.
Flag Retirement ceremony is Oct. 30
A flag retirement ceremony will be held on Oct. 30 at 2 p.m. at Shepherd of the Valley, Poland. During the ceremony, more than 200 flags that were collected by Shepherd of the Valley will be burned in the “Braidich Burner.” The burner was designed by Poland resident Ray Braidich specifically for this purpose.

Pork-Kraut dinner is tomorrow
The Saxon Club will have a Pork-Kraut dinner tomorrow from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The dinner includes dessert, coffee, tea or pop.
The cost is $8.50 for adults and $5 for children. The public is welcome. Take-outs will be available.
Shaffer joins Farmers National Bank
Timothy Shaffer will be the new Vice President at Farmers.
Shaffer began as a management trainee and assistant branch manager in 1984 and has since help positions such as credit analyst, branch manager, small business loan officer and commercial loan officer.
In his new position with Farmers National Bank, Shaffer will lead the commercial lending efforts in the Mahoning Valley.
Heartland Christian rummage sale set
Heartland Christian School is hosting a rummage sale Nov. 5 at Custom Comfort Systems, 44725 state Route 14, Columbiana. New or gently-used items will be collected on Nov. 3 and 4 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Custom Comfort Systems. All proceeds from the sale will benefit a mission trip to Guatemala.
Flu and pneumonia shots available
The Youngstown City Health District will offer flu and pneumonia vaccinations in the meeting room of the Main Library, 305 Wick Ave., on Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Flu shots are available for $15 and pneumonia vaccines for $45. The clinic is open to the public. Medicare and Medicaid participants are eligible and must bring cards.
Third annual food drive
Dr. Cecil, Dr. Gudaitis and staff will be hosting their third annual food drive during the month of November. On Nov. 17, the doctors will provide all chiropractic adjustments at no charge for existing patients in exchange for at least a bag of nonperishable food items. Call to reserve an appointment.
During the week of Nov. 14-18, the doctors will offer new patients a consultation and X-rays in exchange for two bags of non-perishable food items.
All food and proceeds will be donated to the Warren Family Mission.
Grand opening party at Stage Door
The Stage Door Fine and Performing Arts School is hosting its Grand Opening Party on Oct. 30 from 4 to 7 p.m. at their Poland location, Town One Square Plaza, 23 W. McKinley Way, Poland.
The school invites you to meet the staff, enjoy refreshments, listen to a voice ensemble and get your face painted. The dance department will be teaching the “Thriller Dance” and is offering a grand prize to the scariest dressed zombie.

Chaney Class of ‘76 reunion
The Chaney High School Class of 1976 will hold its 35-year reunion from 7 to 11 p.m. on Nov. 26 at the Regency House, 3704 Mahoning Ave., Austintown. Cost is $35 per person. Investigate the Millstones
Joe Hannibal of the Cleveland Museum of Natural History will chronicle his study of historic millstones along Mill Creek and other streams in the Western Reserve on Oct. 30 at 1 p.m. Hannibal will share his discoveries during an indoor presentation and finish with a moderate, 4-mile hike to Lanterman’s Mill to view the millstones. Meet at Ford Nature Center.
Spaghetti dinner set for tomorrow
The St. Charles Church Knights of Columbus Council No. 11915 will host a spaghetti dinner tomorrow from 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the St. Charles Parish Center, Route 224 in Boardman.
Spaghetti dinners will be $7 and Chicken Parmesan dinners will be $8. Dinner will include a salad, rolls and butter, cake and a beverage. Carry outs are available.
Proceeds from the dinner and basket raffle will benefit the Diocesan Pro-Life organization, “Men and Women United for Life.”
Career center salon opens
The Mahoning County Career and Technical Center salon is now open to the public. Salon hours through May are Tuesday through Friday, 8:30-10:30 a.m. by appointment only.
The students offer haircuts, hairstyles, perms, relaxers, facials, hair removal, hair color and manicures. All services are performed by students under the supervision of their instructor. Prices start at just $6.

Thrill the World on Saturday
The Thrill the World 2011 event is set for Saturday at 10 a.m. at the B and O Restaurant in Youngstown. The event will feature zombie dancers presenting Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” in an attempt to set a world record for the “Largest Simultaneous Thriller Dance” in multiple locations.
Proceeds from the dance registration will benefit Canine Crusaders, a local nonprofit organization dedicated to helping “Dogs on Death Row” at the Mahoning County Dog Pound.
Spectators are asked to bring a canned or nonperishable food item for the Second Harvest Food Bank of Mahoning Valley.

Mooney hosts Parent Information Night
Cardinal Mooney High School, 25454 Erie St., will host a Parent Information Night on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the school auditorium. Parents of seventh and eighth-grade students considering enrolling their sons or daughters are invited to attend.

Tour Trees at the Gardens
Fellows Riverside Gardens is offering a leisurely walk in the gardens to admire the autumn splendor tomorrow from 2 to 3:30 p.m. A guide will point out highlights while sharing anecdotes and history with an emphasis on trees. Sign in at the facility’s information desk on the day of the tour.
Enjoy changing leaves with a fall hike tomorrow at 2 p.m. Ford Nature Center will host a moderately-paced, 3-mile hike along Lake Glacier’s west side, noted for its autumn colors and reflections. Meet at Ford Nature Center.
Talk Turkey during tour
Enjoy MetroParks Farm’s last tractor-wagon tour of the season tomorrow from 1 to 4 p.m. before the animals are put away for the winter.
Children can make a special turkey craft to take home. Tractor-wagon leaves every half hour.
Shred It with help from Mill Creek Golf Course
Mill Creek Golf Course and Alpha Omega Document Management will help shred your old documents for free today from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Donations will benefit the Golf Course Practice Range and Learning Center will be accepted. Library helps babies bond with books
The Poland branch of the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County will host “Baby Brilliant: Bonding with Babies and Books” for babies 6-23 months on Oct. 26 at 10 a.m.
The program includes developmentally-appropriate books, songs, rhymes, finger plays and other activities that will help your child become a successful reader. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
Pittsburgh ‘Rivers Casino’ bus trip
The Boardman Rotary Relay for Life team is sponsoring a bus trip to Rivers Casino on Nov. 12. All proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society.
The cost of the trip is $30 and you receive $15 in free play, plus a $5 food voucher. Seats are filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
The bus will leave from behind St. Nicholas Hall in Struthers at 11 a.m. and return at 7 p.m.
