Lohan shows up late and is turned away

LOS ANGELES

Coroner’s officials say Lindsay Lohan arrived late to her first day of community service at the morgue and was turned away.

Spokesman Craig Harvey says the actress was 40 minutes late to an orientation session scheduled for 8 a.m. Thursday but will be given another chance to show up on time today.

Lohan tried to report to the morgue one day after she was scolded by a judge for being terminated from a community-service assignment at a women’s shelter. The hearing ended with the 25-year-old actress’ probation being revoked and her being led from court in handcuffs.

She later posted $100,000 bail and was released.

Her spokesman Steve Honig says the actress’s tardiness was partially because she didn’t know which entrance to the facility to use.

Theme park alters course of coaster

ORLANDO, Fla.

Universal Orlando in Florida is altering its signature ride.

Officials announced this week they no longer will launch the Dragon Challenge’s twin roller coasters simultaneously after an internal investigation stemming from two recent incidents.

For more than a decade, the ride has featured a “high-speed chase between two coasters.” The two coasters passed within 18 inches of each other as they sped along intertwined tracks at up to 60 mph.

The Orlando Sentinel reports the park started launching the coasters on a staggered basis after two riders were struck by loose objects.

In one case, a 52-year-old man suffered a lacerated right eye while riding Dragon Challenge July 31. The man’s lawyer says he had his eyeball removed.

Michael Douglas’ son pleads guilty

NEW YORK

Michael Douglas’ imprisoned son has pleaded guilty to a new drug charge.

Cameron Douglas admitted Thursday that he managed to get drugs in prison while serving a five-year sentence for an earlier drug plea.

Douglas entered the plea to a narcotics-possession charge.

He’s agreed to serve another year in prison.

Douglas admitted possessing drugs from May through last week.

That’s when authorities found what appeared to be heroin and cocaine in his cell.

The 32-year-old son of the Academy Award-winning actor previously had admitted dealing methamphetamine and cocaine.
