To mark the end of Fire Prevention Week, Canfield Fire Department Fire Station No. 2 hosted a Fire Prevention Open House at its Messerly Road location Oct. 15.

The station had 10 firefighters on hand throughout the day to give stop, drop and roll demonstrations and a fire extinguisher demonstration for the approximately 100 kids who attended the event.

The firefighters also showed off their new ladder truck with demonstrations and also had their other trucks available for guests to check out and even climb on.

Children were given plastic fire helmets, stickers, coloring books and a fire safety checklist. The open house also provided crucial fire prevention information for adults.

According to Canfield Fire Department Deputy Chief Matt Rarick, the annual event has been held for at least 20 years.

The station provided refreshments, including hot dogs, cookies and cider, for the guests.

The firefighters also visited Hilltop Elementary School and C.H. Campbell Elementary School earlier in the week as part of Fire Prevention Week to teach the children fire prevention.
