BGMS football routs South Catholic

The BGMS football team beat the South Catholic Cardinals 34-8 to improve their undefeated record to 6-0 on the season.

Jamison Lytle scored on the first possession on a 51-yard touchdown run. Lynn Bowden powered his way to touchdown runs of 67 yards and 15 yards as well as adding two two-point conversions. Preston Stitt scored on a one-yard touchdown run to give the Spartans a 28-0 halftime lead. Tyler Dempsey added a 40-yard touchdown run to complete the scoring for the Spartans.

The offensive line, consisting of Alex Birchfield, Nick Patoray, Nick Stamp, Gavin Dill, Devin Cool and Sean Birchfield, opened up big holes for the running backs. The defensive effort was led by Brandon Fuese’s second interception of the season and two sacks by Nick Patoray and one by Lytle.

BGMS cross country takes fourth

The Boardman Glenwood cross country teams ran at the Clipper Invitational in Columbiana. Elly Larrier finished fourth overall with Lauren Pavlansky and Taylor Broll finishing in the top 30. The girls placed fifth overall in scoring.

The boys team posted a fourth-place finish overall as Matt Perham led the way coming in 10th. Brett Brunko and Dylan Ball had strong performances finishing 19th and 20th, respectively.

BGMS eighth-grade volleyball defeats AMS

The Boardman Glenwood eighth-grade volleyball team defeated Austintown Middle School Blue 25-14, 25-13. Katie Platt had nine assists, five aces and one dig. Elli Hritz had five aces, four kills and one assist. Krista Johnson had three kills, two assists and one ace. Caitlynn Conner had four kills and one ace.

The BGMS seventh- grade team lost to AMS Blue 25-23, 22-25, 28-26. Charlotte Voytko had four assists, two aces and two digs.

Faith Clear had four aces and three kills.

Taylor Halowell had five aces and once kill and Nicolette Martino had two aces, two digs and one assist.

BGMS girls volleyball results

The Boardman Glenwood girls volleyball eighth-grade team defeated South Range 25-19, 25-16. Katie Platt had 10 assists and once ace. Krista Johnson had eight kills and one dig. Ellie Hritz had four aces, three kills and one assist. Hayley Eicher had three digs and once ace.

The seventh-grade team lost to South Range 25-6 and 25-17. Alaina Hufnagel had one ace and one assist. Charlotte Voytko had one dig and one assist. Faith Clear had once ace and one dig.

The eighth-grade team beat Liberty 25-16, 25-19. Hritz had four digs, two aces and one kill. Platt had three assists, three kills and one dig. Johnson had four aces, one kill and one dig. Platt had three aces and two digs.

The seventh-grade team defeated Liberty 23-25, 25-16, 25-7. Nicolette Martino had six aces and six assists. Brittany Mathews helped out Boardman with eight aces, two kills and one dig. Voytko had four assists, one ace, one kill and one dig. Taylor Halowell’s five kills and two aces helped bring the Spartans to victory.

U.S. Kids Golf Tour coming to Youngstown

The U.S. Kids Golf Canton East Fall Tour will kick off on Saturday at Avalon Lakes Country Club. Throughout the late fall, U.S. Kids will head to six of the finest courses in the Youngstown area. The final tour championship will be held on Nov. 13 at the Lake Club.

These tours provide boys and girls, ages 5 to 14, the opportunity to advance their golf skills in age-appropriate competition without having to take the time and incur the costs of traveling. Similar to the PGA Tour, players at U.S. Kids golf events are encouraged to have caddies help them play their best. Allowing caddies is a special component to the tournaments and is part of the commitment to encouraging family interaction that builds lasting memories.

YMCA offers Youth Sports Program

The Fall Youth Fundamental Basketball League has begun. The league runs through Dec. 17 and is open to boys and girls ages 4 to 15. Registration fees are $48 for YMCA members and $68 for all others.

The YMCA is also offering a Fall Sunday Team “Select” Basketball League. This league will conclude with a league tournament on Dec. 18. The “Select” league is open to boys in fourth, fifth and sixth grade and girls in fifth and sixth grade. Registration fees are $42 for YMCA members and $57 for all others.
