Annual fall festival today on the Green

Canfield United Methodist Church is hosting the 71st annual Fall Festival today from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the Green. Shops open during the festival will feature bargains of gently used books, clothing, housewares, toys and furniture. There will be handmade decorations, floral arrangements, gift items and homemade breads, cakes and pies for sale.

Coffee and muffins will be available at 10:30 a.m. and a cafeteria-style luncheon will be open from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.

All proceeds from the festival are used toward the church’s mission and outreach ministries to the community, including Operation Blessing, The Rescue Mission, United Methodist Community Center, Protestant Family Services and The Boy Scouts.

Pork-Kraut dinner

The Saxon Club will have a Pork-Kraut dinner tomorrow from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The dinner includes dessert, coffee, tea or pop.

The cost is $8.50 for adults and $5 for children. The public is welcome. Take-outs will be available.

Shaffer joins Farmers National Bank

Timothy Shaffer will be the new Vice President. Shaffer began as a management trainee and assistant branch manager in 1984 and has since help positions such as credit analyst, branch manager, small business loan officer and commercial loan officer.

In his new position with Farmers National Bank, Shaffer will lead the commercial lending efforts in the Mahoning Valley.

“We are pleased to have Tim on our team and look forward to a long and successful partnership,” said Mark Graham, Chief Credit Officer for Farmers National Bank.

Rummage sale

Heartland Christian School is hosting a rummage sale Nov. 5 at Custom Comfort Systems, 44725 SR. 14, Columbiana. New or gently used items will be collected on Nov. 3 and 4 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Custom Comfort Systems.

All proceeds from the sale will benefit a mission trip to Guatemala.

Flu and pneumonia shots available

The Youngstown City Health District will offer flu and pneumonia vaccinations in the meeting room of the Main Library, 305 Wick Ave., on Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Flu shots are available for $15 and pneumonia vaccines for $45.

The clinic is open to the public. Medicare and Medicaid participants are eligible and must bring cards.

Third annual food drive set

Dr. Cecil, Dr. Gudaitis and staff will be hosting their third annual food drive during the month of November. On Nov. 17, the doctors will provide all chiropractic adjustments at no charge for existing patients in exchange for at least a bag of nonperishable food items. Call to reserve an appointment.

During the week of Nov. 14-18, the doctors will offer new patients a consultation and X-rays in exchange for two bags of non-erishable food items.

All food and proceeds will be donated to the Warren Family Mission.

Thrill the World on Saturday

The Thrill the World 2011 event is set for Saturday at 10 a.m. at the B and O Restaurant in Youngstown. The event will feature zombie dancers presenting Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” in an attempt to set a world record for the “Largest Simultaneous Thriller Dance” in multiple locations.

Proceeds from the dance registration will benefit Canine Crusaders, a local nonprofit organization dedicated to helping “Dogs on Death Row” at the Mahoning County Dog Pound.

Spectators are asked to bring a canned or nonperishable food item for the Second Harvest Food Bank of Mahoning Valley.
