WARREN

A virtual chat with best-selling author Adriana Trigiani will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Warren-Trumbull County Public Library, 444 Mahoning Ave. NW.

Trigiani will be connected to the library via the audio-and video-conferencing software application Skype, and she will be able to speak with and answer questions from those in the audience in Warren.

Trigiani was raised in a small coal-mining town in southwest Virginia. She chose her hometown for the setting and title of her debut novel, the critically acclaimed best-seller “Big Stone Gap.”

The story continues in the novel’s sequels “Big Cherry Holler,” “Milk Glass Moon,” and “Home to Big Stone Gap.” Her novels have been translated and sold in more than 35 countries around the world. Reservations are not required, and admission is free.

Judge at summit

WARREN

Judge Thomas A. Swift of Trumbull County Probate Court will be presenter at the National Guardianship Summit to be in Salt Lake City.

Delegates will develop recommendations for revisions of the guardianship practice.

Guardianship pertains to legal limits placed on an individual’s right to make decisions about his or her life. Usually these limits are implemented because of a disability or age.

Community meeting at St. John’s church

Youngstown

Newport Neighborhood Association officers and team leaders will not conduct a meeting at its regular meeting place. Instead, they are encouraging neighbors, city and county residents to attend the Jobs and Strong Communities public meeting at 6:30 p.m. today at St. John Episcopal Church, 323 Wick Ave.

Halloween parade

GIRARD

A Halloween parade for all children from Girard and the surrounding area will be from 11 a.m. to noon Saturday at St. Rose Gym, 61 Main St. SE.

Treats, music and prizes will be provided. The event is sponsored by Girard Fraternal Order of Police and city fire department, St. Rose Church “Youth on the Move,” and the eighth-grade CCD students. Those attending should bring nonperishable food items for Emmanuel Care Center’s pantry.
