Pianist Nobuyuko Tsujii to perform in YSO concert

Gold-medal pianist Nobuyuko Tsujii will perform Chopin’s First Piano Concerto in a Youngstown Symphony Orchestra concert at 8 p.m. Saturday in Powers Auditorium.

Tsujii won the gold medal at the 13th Van Cliburn International Piano Competition in 2009 in Fort Worth, Texas.

The 22-year-old, who has been blind since birth, is the first gold medalist from Japan.

The concert, titled “Heroes and Legends,” will feature the William Tell Overture and soundtrack music from “Titanic,” “The Gladiator,” “Saving Private Ryan,” “Indiana Jones” and “E.T.”
