Health Fair offered

YOUNGSTOWN

The Williams Health Missionary Society of St. Andrewes A.M.E. Church, 521 Earle Ave., is having a Community Health Fair on Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Health screening, including bone density by Humility of Mary Health Partners and Rapid HIV testing by the Youngstown City Health Department, as well as blood sugar and blood pressure, will be offered. Medicine collection

FARRELL/GREENVILLE, PA.

UPMC Horizon is offering an unwanted-medicine collection event Wednesday from 3 to 7 p.m. in the lobbies of its hospital campuses in Greenville and Farrell.

Acceptable items include: prescription medications (controlled and noncontrolled substances), nonprescription and over–the-counter medications. Items that will not be accepted include: durable medical goods, health and beauty aids, home-care supplies, home health equipment, household hazardous waste, illegal substances and paraphernalia, infectious waste, institutional waste, medical devices and equipment, medical sharps (needles), mercury thermometers, personal-care items and radioactive materials.

HMHP drug disposal

Youngstown

On Oct. 29 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Humility of Mary Health Partners (HMHP) Police and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) are having a prescription- drug disposal event. People with potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs can bring the medications for disposal to St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown (Belmont Avenue entrance) or St. Joseph Health Center (main entrance).

The service is free, and anonymous liquid medications, intravenous solutions, injectables and syringes will not be accepted.

Senior solutions

Poland

On Oct. 27, the Western Reserve Association of Health Underwriters will present “Understanding Senior Health Solutions,” at which the historical background of Medicare, the impact of the Medicare Modernization Act and a comparison of Medigap versus MedAdvantage will be discussed.

The event and lunch are at Bruno’s Restaurant, 1984 Boardman-Poland Road, Poland. The program offers one continuing education credit. Registration begins at 11:20 a.m. followed by lunch and a brief WRAHU business meeting and the program at noon. Admission is free for members and $25 for non-members. Reservations are required. Vaccinations offered

YOUNGSTOWN

The Youngstown City Health District will offer flu and pneumonia vaccinations in the meeting room of the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County, 305 Wick Ave., from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday.

The seasonal flu shot is $15. The pneumonia vaccine is $45. The clinic is open to the public. Medicare and Medicaid participants are eligible and must bring their cards.
