Turnpike meetings

Turnpike meetings

BOARDMAN

State Rep. Ron Gerberry of Austintown, D-59th, and other state legislators will host the second of three statewide Ohio Turnpike town-hall meetings at 6 p.m. today at the Boardman Township Government Center, 8299 Market St.

The meetings focus on the planned privatization of the 241-mile highway by Republican lawmakers, something Gerberry vehemently disagrees with.

Lawmakers had a similar meeting Monday in Lucas County and will have another Thursday in Lorain County.

“We’ve heard a tremendous amount of concern from our constituents about the privatization of the pike,” Gerberry told The Vindicator. “I have not had one person tell me they think it’s a good idea.”

The U.S. Department of Transportation on Oct. 7 revoked $1.5 million in federal funds from Ohio because the state had used the money to fund a turnpike-privatization study.
