WARREN

A 21-year-old city man accused of shooting and robbing the owner of the NorthEnd Market on North Park Avenue last April, and a 61-year-old city man accused of ordering his dog to attack another man Aug. 31 have been indicted by a Trumbull County grand jury.

Both will be arraigned in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court at 2 p.m. Oct. 27 by Judge John M. Stuard. Both men have been in the Trumbull County jail awaiting trial for two months.

Jacquavis K. Williams, 21, of Palmyra Road, is indicted on charges of felonious assault and aggravated robbery, both with specifications that he used a firearm, in the NorthEnd robbery.

The charges carry a potential prison sentence of more than 20 years.

Mohammad Darwish, owner of the market, said Williams gave no warning that he would fire a gun April 12 when he walked up to the counter with a bag of potato chips.

“BAM!, he shot me,” Darwish told The Vindicator.

After Williams fired, he asked for money, and Darwish gave it to him.

The bullet that hit Darwish entered his left wrist, traveled to his hand and fingers, fracturing bones, then passed into Darwish’s stomach.

The damage has left Darwish with limited use of his left hand, and the bullet damaged his colon and intestines.

Darwish has operated stores in Warren for 34 years, and this was the first time he was robbed.

Williams turned himself in to police in August after police issued an arrest warrant for him.

Also indicted Tuesday was Major C. Beckwith, 61, of Sixth Street Southwest, on one count of felonious assault.

Beckwith is accused of ordering his pit-bull dog to attack Lonnie R. Culver, 46, of Scott Street Northeast on Aug. 31 at Culver’s house in a dispute involving $10 Culver owed Beckwith.

The dog bit Culver in the back, legs, arms and eye, leaving Culver with serious injuries to one arm.

If convicted, Beckwith could get up to eight years in prison.
