Significant dates and events during Judge Erskine Maiden’s time on the bench:

Jan. 1, 1931: At 39, became the youngest Mahoning County Common Pleas Court judge.

December 1934: Backed compulsory liability law for motorists.

November 1940: Offered 19-year-old who pleaded guilty to armed robbery choice of jail or enlisting in the military.

December 1946: Offered defendant choice of jail or supporting the family of a man he killed in an auto accident.

February 1947: Sentenced Joe “Fats” Aiello to 60 days in the county jail for carrying a gun in a fracas at the Purple Cow Restaurant.

August 1960: Rules the book “Sex Life of a Cop” obscene and ordered the copies destroyed.

June 1966: Honored as 50-year member of the Mahoning Bar Association.

December 1966: Sworn in for his seventh term as Common Please Court judge.
