Township police used video footage to determine that the suspect in a break-in at Cocca’s Pizza checked out the establishment just before the crime.

Officers responded to an alarm at the Market Street business about 1:30 a.m. Tuesday to find glass broken from the front door, according to a police report.

The cash register was hanging from the counter by electrical wires, and its drawer was missing along with about $17 in coins.

Police reviewed the in-store video footage and discovered the suspect, who was driving an older-model Pontiac Sunfire, drove by several times before parking his car in front of the store, the report said.

The suspect used a crow bar to break the glass door, then to open the register drawer before fleeing.

Boardman police are still searching for the suspect, who is described as a white man between 20 and 34. He had a goatee and was wearing a hooded sweat shirt, pants, black shoes and a black belt.
