Warren police probe slaying

WARREN

City police are investigating an early Sunday shooting death that occurred outside a Youngstown Road bar.

Stanley Thomas, no hometown provided, was shot and killed in the parking lot of Clancy’s Pub, 2461 Youngstown Road SE.

A news release from police said that no arrests have been made. Sgt. Jeff Cole, the police department’s spokesman, could not be reached.

It’s the city’s sixth homicide of the year. Warren recorded four homicides in 2010.

Councilman Bob Dean, D-at-large, said that Thomas — who Dean said was 37 — and another woman were prospective buyers of the lounge from its current owner. They came out of the club about 2:30 a.m. Sunday to clear the parking lot, but the woman went back into the club, Dean said.

While she was inside, multiple shots were fired and Thomas was killed. Dean said it appears there were two shooters as two different calibers of bullets were found at the scene.

The shots from a .40-caliber weapon appear to have been fired from the lot of a grocery store across the street from the club.

Last week, city council passed legislation, co-sponsored by Dean and Vincent Flask, D-5th, that prohibited parking along Kenmore Avenue between 8 p.m. and 8 a.m.

Kenmore is the side street at the bar.

Dean said that neighbors had complained that bar patrons parking blocked their driveways. Neighbors also have complained of loud music coming from the club.

Before Sunday’s shooting, Flask and Dean had scheduled a meeting with the bar’s current owner to try to reach agreement on how the bar could be a good neighbor, Dean said.
