Gas prices in Valley on the rise

YOUNGSTOWN

Gasoline prices have jumped in the Mahoning Valley and in Ohio as oil prices move higher again.

In the Youngstown-Warren-Boardman region, gas prices rose 5 cents, from $3.28 to $3.33 during the past week, but are still lower than the statewide average price for regular-grade gasoline at $3.37, up 11 cents from last week.

Oil prices have been on the rise for the last two weeks amid economic indicators that have made traders hopeful the U.S. won’t fall back into recession. Another downturn could hurt demand for fuel.

As oil prices rally, the cost of gasoline has been pushed to record levels for this time of year, according to AAA and its partners.

Ohio motorists are paying more than 50 cents more for gas than they were a year ago, when regular was averaging $2.81.
