Eight departments respond to RG Steel fire


WARREN — Eight area fire departments responded to RG Steel, the former Severstal steel mill, for a structure fire at 1:44 a.m. today.

No injuries were reported, and at least one department — Warren Township — was still at the scene at 9:30 a.m. near the blast furnace entrance on Main Avenue Southwest.

The fire was reported to be “under control” at 5:09 a.m., according to the Trumbull County 911 dispatching operation in Howland.

In addition to Warren Township, fire departments from Howland, Lordstown, Warren city, Braceville, Weathersfield, Newton Falls and Champion responded to the scene.

Officials from Howland and Warren townships, who were in charge of the fire, were unavailable Monday morning to provide details of the fire.
