“THE WALKING DEAD” (9 p.m., AMC): They’re baaaaaack. Those creepy zombies who made such a big impression on prime time last fall return to terrorize humanity once again. The 90-minute opener picks up where we left off, with stoic sheriff Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) leading his band of survivors down a highway out of Atlanta toward Fort Benning. Of course, they don’t get far before trouble arises in the form of a massive armada of flesh-eating ghouls. Soon thereafter, a member of the gang goes missing and everybody basically freaks out.

“desperate housewives” (9 p.m., abc): Gaby (Eva Longoria) is ticked off about something. Again. This time, the target of her wrath is an official at Juanita’s school who banished her to a far-away parking lot for breaking the student drop-off rules.

“Masterpiece mystery!” (9 p.m., pbs): The show introduces us to another intriguing sleuth in “Case Histories,” a series based on the novels by Kate Atkinson. He’s Jackson Brodie (Jason Isaacs), a Scottish detective who finds himself looking into a 30-year-old missing person’s case.

“csi miami” (10 p.m., cbs): You may want to avert your eyes tonight, and for good reason. Horatio (David Caruso) and his team are hunting a serial killer who removes his victims’ eyes as part of a sick ritual.
