Saturday’s Mid-American conference games
Miami 9, Kent State 3
KENT
Zac Dysert threw the game’s only touchdown and the Miami defense was stifling. Freddy Cortez opened the scoring with a 32-yard field goal less than three minutes into the first quarter for the Golden Flashes — the only points they’d score. After a scoreless second quarter, Dysert’s 16-yard touchdown pass to Chris Givens would be the deciding score for Miami (2-4, 1-1, Mid-American Conference). Redhawks linebacker C.J. Marck sacked Spencer Keith in the end zone for a safety with 10:17 to play, sealing the game. Kent State (1-6, 0-3) outgained Miami 244-166 in total yards and forced two turnovers versus just one secured by the RedHawks, but were 3 of 17 on third down and 0 of 2 on fourth down. Dysert finished 13 of 27 for 125 yards for Miami.
Toledo 28, Bowling Green 21
BOWLING GREEN
Morgan Williams rushed for three touchdowns to help Toledo pull away. Williams, who rushed for 136 yards, scored twice in the fourth quarter to break a 14-14 tie. His 13-yard score gave the Rockets (4-2, 2-1) a 21-14 lead with 10:43 to play. Then, Williams scored on a 24-yard run to push the lead to 28-14 with 1:34 left. BooBoo Gates returned the ensuing kickoff 88 yards for a touchdown for the Falcons (3-4, 1-2), who lost their third straight game.
Ball State 23, Ohio 20
ATHENS
Steven Schott kicked a 27-yard field goal in the fourth quarter for Ball State. Following Schott’s game-winner, Ohio’s Tyler Tettleton threw his second interception of the day, to Joshua Howard, preventing a Bobcats drive. Ohio, however, managed a drive late in the game to set up a 41-yard field goal chance by Matt Weller. Weller missed the kick wide left with 36 seconds left to end the Bobcats’ streak of seven straight home wins.
Temple 34, Buffalo 0
PHILADELPHIA
Bernard Pierce ran for 152 yards and two touchdowns on 23 carries, and set new Temple rushing records. Pierce became Temple’s single-season and career rushing leader with his performance, as he crossed the 100-yard mark for the fifth time this season. Even his backup joined the party. Matt Brown ran for 120 yards and a score on 12 carries as the Owls (5-2, 3-1) compiled 400 yards on the ground, and owned 39:08 time of possession, never really giving the Bulls (2-5, 1-2) an opportunity to fight back.
Eastern Michigan 35, Central Michigan 28
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich.
Alex Gillett scored on a 30-yard run with 37 seconds left, and Eastern Michigan won despite blowing a late 15-point lead. Central Michigan (2-5, 1-2) had tied the game at 28 when Ryan Radcliff hit Jerry Harris with a 2-yard touchdown pass with 1:09 remaining, then found Titus Davis on a two-point conversion. Davis and Radcliff had hooked up for an 11-yard score on the Chippewas’ previous drive.
Northern Illinois 51, Western Michigan 22
DEKALB, Ill.
Northern Illinois rushed for 494 yards and six touchdowns. The Huskies (4-3, 2-1) trailed 15-13 at halftime before scoring 38 unanswered points. Quarterback Chandler Harnish rushed for 229 yards on 14 carries; Jordan Lynch added 113 yards on 10 carries, including a 66-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter; Jasmin Hopkins had 91 yards and three TDs; and Akeem Daniels added two more scores on the ground.
