Model train, plane display at National Packard Museum

“Planes, Trains and Automobiles,” a model railroad display, opened last week at the National Packard Museum, and will run through Dec. 29.

Sponsored by the museum, the Western Reserve Modular Railroad Club and the Flying Aeros Association, the display features four working O-gauge tracks set against modular backgrounds depicting the golden age of transportation along with numerous radio control flying aircraft displayed alongside Packard automobiles.

Railroad club members operate the trains for visitors on Saturdays and Sundays.

The intricately designed set depicts scenic America during the height of the rail travel era.

The Flying Aeros Association is a radio-controlled flying model club with more than 75 members who fly nitro and gas airplanes, electric sailplanes and nitro and electric helicopters and jets. Their exhibit features radio controlled flying machines that can typically be seen flying at the Ernie Hall Memorial field on Everett Hull Road across from the Trumbull County Fairgrounds. The flying machines are suspended throughout the museum.

The National Packard Museum is open Tuesday through Saturday from noon to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. Admission is $8 for adults, $5 for seniors (65 and older) and $5 for children (7-12). Children under 7 are free.
