The YWCA Warren, in partnership with the Warren Police Athletic League and Warren WEED & SEED, is having a free basketball tournament and career fair at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Warren G. Harding High School gymnasium.
The tournament is open to boys and girls in grades nine to 12 as an alternative to violence. Individuals and teams of five may enter. Members of the winning boys and girls teams will receive an iPod Shuffle.
Representatives from local universities, colleges, trade or technical schools and labor unions will talk with students about the programs they offer. Refreshments will be provided. Students are encouraged to register for the event in advance by calling WEED & SEED at 330-373-6010 or the YWCA Warren at 330-373-1010, ext. 18.
The YWCA Week Without Violence, this week, is a nationwide annual campaign that highlights practical, sustainable alternatives to violence in communities.
Teen Challenge event

Ohio Valley Teen Challenge annual fundraising banquet is planned for 6:30 p.m. Oct. 27 at Highway Tabernacle Family Life Center, 3000 S. Raccoon Road. The cost is $20 a person and $150 for a table of eight. Reservations are due by Friday; call 330-743-9030 or visit www.ohiovalleyteenchallenge.com. Participants will give testimony how Teen Challenge helped set them free from addiction and destructive behaviors.
Cemetery cleanup

The fall/winter cleanup at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Market Street, will begin Nov. 1.
All decorations must be removed by Oct. 31. Fall flowers may remain in vases. Christmas wreaths ordered through the cemetery will be placed on grave sites beginning Nov. 16.
