40 Under 40 Awards
YOUNGSTOWN
The Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley and the Mahoning Valley Young Professional Club will announce the Valley’s 40 honorees for the seventh annual 40 under 40 Awards on Monday morning.
Dr. Cynthia Anderson, president of Youngstown State University, will speak at the event, at 9 a.m. at The Youngstown Club, 201 E. Commerce St., on the topic of brain-drain perception and to promote young Valley professionals.
Web-based show
WARREN
Atty. Jack Alpern is launching his first Web-based radio show, called Life and Legacy. It features programs that focus on estate and financial planning.
“Our listeners can tune in whenever they want, and it’s convenient for them,” Alpern said. “The programs are always available, 24/7, on our new website [www.lifeandlegacy.tv].”
Alpern was an on-air personality and news reporter while in high school in East Liverpool and worked as a disc jockey in Columbus while in law school.
The Alpern Law Firm has its headquarters at 103 West Market St. in Warren but has offices in Boardman, East Liverpool and Middlefield.
Komara donations
CANFIELD
Komara Jewelers, in celebration of its 63rd year in business, will donate a percentage of all proceeds to the new Joanie Abdu Comprehensive Breast Care Center at St. Elizabeth Center.
From Oct. 24 through 29, Komara will offer sale items at both of its locations — 3649 Canfield Road in Canfield and 5200 E. Market St. in Howland — at a 20-percent to 50-percent discount.
It will donate a portion of those sales to the new center.
Business seminar
YOUNGSTOWN
A special seminar titled “Ohio Business Models & Structures” will take place at the Youngstown Business Incubator’s Learning Lab from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. Friday.
The seminar will focus on structure for entrepreneurs and founders and the consequences of choosing the wrong business model.

Contracting seminar
NEW CASTLE, PA.
The Northwest Procurement Technical Assistance Center and the Lawrence County Economic Development Corp. will host a federal- contracting seminar from 9 a.m. to noon Oct. 28 at Butler Community College, Room 119, Lawrence Crossing, 2849 W. State St.
Carl Knoblock, Small Business Administration district director, will discuss marketing to the federal government and will include topics such as set-asides for small businesses and subcontracting programs.
